She thought she found her Prince Charming
three times.
She married those three Prince Charmings
who weren’t charming after she married them.
Now an old woman she’s given up on love.
She spends her days watching soap operas
and relates to them because she’s lived
in three marital soap operas filled with drama.
She has a toy poodle she calls Ralph,
says he’s better company than any of those
fake Prince Charmings ever could have been.

He had a girlfriend named Sara
who had a weird doll.
She held that doll, she called
Clara, as if it were a real child.
Because Sara was heartbreakingly hot,
I tried to overlook her doll obsession.
But I must admit the doll creeped me out,
and it often seemed to look at me,
with evil in its plastic eyes.
For the two months I was with Sara,
bad things happened to me.
I got laid off from my job.
My car got stolen, never found.
I got a wicked case of COVID,
nearly died from it.
Crazy as it may seem, I believe
that doll was cursing me.
I think it was because it was jealous
of the attention Sara was giving me.
When I broke up with Sara, the
bad luck ended.
I have no doubt that lifted the doll’s
curse, which I believe would have
killed me had I stayed with Sara.

I knew Vivian in high school when she
was a fun and studious girl.

I had a crush on her, and felt she had
a crush on me,

but we never really got to know
each other,

like a might-have-been or a love
lost.

After graduation, at a post-high school party
that I was unable to attend,

she got drunk for the first time, and on the
way home,

she lost control of her car and died instantly
when she plowed into a semi-trailer truck.

Now I see Vivian in occasional dreams,
telling me she misses me

and saying we’ll be together soon, which,
I must confess, scares the hell out of me.

She’s an old woman now,
her life is ebbing out of her.

Those friends of her youth,
all dead or gone.

She’s all alone in the world;
no one cares about her.

She spends her days in solitude,
with no desire to go anywhere;

nowhere holds any appeal, and
she cries her waning days away.

I keep reading over and over that many men
are not attending singles events nowadays.

Supposedly they are tired of modern women
and their litany of requirements,
including boat loads of $$$.

I’m with them on not wanting women who
require the boat loads of $$$.

Why pay the higher price when you might
be able to get equal or better goods
without needing boatloads of $$$.

And, hell yea, make no mistake about this,
though she puts that sky high price tag on herself,
she’s no prize.

You are probably the prize by comparison
if you don’t put a monetary value on
finding true love.

And if she chooses you based on the
bottom line instead of the richness
of your character, your kindness,
the compassion in your heart —

what will happen
if God forbid, you lose your $$$?

Screw that. Better to go MGTOW.

Or, if the luck of the gods is with you
in these superficial dating days, maybe
you’ll find a wonderful woman who will
love you despite how many $$$ you make
or have.

Best of luck with that, and you might not
find her on the often unbearably annoying,
sometimes risky, dating apps.

The woman you have been with wants to leave you.
Let go of her.
Don’t try to force her to stay or try to change
her mind.
Let go of her.
And never ever be so weak as to beg her to stay.
Let go of her.

And why would you want to be with
a woman who no longer wants to be with you?

Free yourself of a relationship that isn’t working.

Find yourself a woman better suited for you.

Experience the ecstasies of falling in love again.

Let go of her.

The chips are beginning to fall.
I don’t have to care where.
But there’s a couple who are
more than a little concerned
about the dirty laundry that
could be revealed.
So far, their money has
kept them publicly clean,
but maybe not now if the
truth comes out in the wash
along with the sordid reveals.

First, she brought joy to his heart.
He couldn’t stop thinking about her.
Her smile lit up his entire life.
Spending time with her was like
living in a paradise on earth.
Eventually, they married,
and they were such a happy couple.
Then she got a job where she
met many new female friends.
Not long after that, she began
spending more time with her
new friends than with him.
And his life became like a
country western song,
“Isn’t It Lonely Together.”
Despite many arguments,
she never changed her ways,
until he had to escape the
gnawing loneliness.
He left the paradise on earth
that became a paradise lost.

We had a great date
and a better night
but the next day
she broke it off
she said
because I didn’t
play golf
which was fine
with me
I needed a woman
who put
a relationship’s
emphasis on
more than
batting balls
around.

He met her on a dating app.
Refreshingly, she was as beautiful
as her photos.
But she incessantly probed him
with questions, as if he was
applying for a corporate job.
After her questions became
too personal, he said, “Please
enough of the questions.”
She said, “Okay,” gave him a
dismissive look, and walked away.

The first time I visited her
I saw she had spiders
in her old house on
webs in the corners
of her spooky living room.
I found that creepy as hell.
She said they brought her luck.
I wondered about her sanity.
I knew I had to get away.
I never called her after that day.
Two weeks later, I got a package
from her in the mail.
I opened the package.
Creepy spiders crawled out.

Of course it’s preposterous
of course it’s unbelievable
that aliens could be among us
but what if it were true
maybe hybrids created in
an alien laboratory in the sky
maybe shape shifters
shaped like humans
hard to say
maybe happening this
very day
perhaps you passed by one
last week or yesterday
maybe one is your neighbor
maybe one is reading this

Like many people who have lived
long lives, he’s alone near the end of his.
It’s kind of the way he wanted it,
peace in his shrinking years.
At least he’s still independent
not in assisted living or a nursing home.
He looks forward to his death
from a world he no longer fits into.
He longs to join the many he knew,
citizens of the afterlife.
