His genetics predisposed him to mental illness,
\nNot his fault, nothing he could do to change his fate.
\nHe often wondered why me? Why me?
\nCompared to him, others led wonderful lives,<\/p>\n
He struggled with craziness in his twenties,
\nAnd refused to dull his mind with crazy pills.
\nHe wrote beautiful and memorable poems.
\nAt least despite the curse, he had some talent.<\/p>\n
On a downcast day when his life lost meaning,
\nHe shuffled into an abandoned farm building
\nWith an armful of rope in his shaking hands.
\nHe had decided to hang himself to death.<\/p>\n
Before he secured the rope around his neck,
\nA starving, feral cat approached him meowing.
\nHe scooped her up in his arms and petted her,
\nTook her home and fed her some nutritious food.<\/p>\n
He credited her with saving his screwed up life,
\nThat he made some life-saving changes in.
\nHe followed his doctor\u2019s well-intentioned advice
\nAbout taking medications that stabilized him.<\/p>\n
After which he led a wonderful, productive life,
\nWriting and teaching poetry in a university,
\nAnd he never considered suicide again,
\nAnd he got married to a woman who loved his cat. <\/p>\n
