Despite that attack,

\nrenown lion tamer<\/p>\n

\nadventurous with
\nthe lions and
\ncautioned about
\nbeing too reckless,
\nat times turning
\nhis back on them.<\/p>\n
On January 3rd,
\n1872, he fell to the
\nground during a
\nperformance with
\nfive large lions. <\/p>\n
A black Barbary lion
\nroared and leaped
\nupon him and the
\nfour other lions
\nroared and joined in
\nmauling Macarte and
\nripping off his flesh.<\/p>\n
In the audience, men
\nshuddered and women
\nfainted at the
\nterrifying sight.<\/p>\n
Eventually and with
\ngreat effort, Macarte
\nwas rescued from
\nthe lions, but his flesh
\nwas torn from his bones.<\/p>\n
And after the attack of
\na quarter of an hour,
\nMacarte said, \u201cI\u2019m done
