He called me when the retreat was over.
\nSaid he was in cosmic consciousness.
\nSaid he could look into my eyes and take me there too.
\nSaid he had psychic powers.<\/p>\n
His voice sounded strange as he talked on.
\nHis words became disconnected.
\nI knew he wasn\u2019t in cosmic consciousness.
\nI knew he didn’t have psychic powers.
\nI knew he had had a break with reality.<\/p>\n
Then he told me he was calling from the ER.
\nThey didn\u2019t know what he was talking about.
\nThey weren\u2019t highly evolved enough to understand
\nhigher states of consciousness.<\/p>\n
As he talked on, my heart sank and it was clear
\nhe had suffered a severe mental breakdown.<\/p>\n
He never completely recovered.
\nHe bounced in and out of psych wards
\nfor the rest of the time I knew him.<\/p>\n
Maybe he was predisposed to mental illness.
\nBut I think he overdosed on way too much meditation
\nand compromised his mental faculties beyond repair,
\nand I know that has happened to others. <\/p>\n
