As innocent as a fresh born babe
\nand with a deformed face,
\nmy left eye lower than my right,
\naccused of being a witch,
\nI denied the claims of witchcraft
\nat the August 1612 Witches Trial
\nin Lancaster County, England.
\nWrongfully convicted, sentenced to death,
\nI couldn\u2019t believe I\u2019d come to this.
\nShocked by the thought of my life ending so soon,
\nI passed out before being dragged to my cell.
\nDays later, I stood below a hanging noose
\ntied to a thick branch of a tree,
\nmy heart trembling,
\ntears falling from my downcast eyes.
\nAbout to be hung to death,
\nthrough my tears I spied my
\nnine-year-old daughter, Elizabeth Device,
\nwhose false testimony brought me here,
\nwatching from afar in a field.
