In the Philippines cats get no respect,
\nnever pampered unlike in the US.
\nNo cat hospitals, probably no cat vets.
\nFeral street cats no one there wants;
\nthey leap from roof to roof on one story
\nPhilippines houses, a racket on the roofs,
\nand scrounge for food wherever they
\ncan find it. Theirs is a hard luck life. <\/p>\n
Once as a dumb and foolish experiment,
\nI hissed at one to see how he\u2019d respond.
\nBig mistake. Regretted it. Cat took offense.<\/p>\n
Every time he saw me after that, his eyes glared,
\nhis teeth bared, and he hissed at me, an enemy.
\nMy conscious guilty, I really felt bad for teasing
\nthat poor cat. I should have been better than that.<\/p>\n
I began bringing him food to atone for my offense.
\nSix meals later, friends at last.<\/p>\n
