A 17-Year-Old Died Today<\/p>\n
I read in the news a 17-year-old teenager
\npassed away today. <\/p>\n
No news of what from. <\/p>\n
But not from an accident or a homicide.<\/p>\n
Sadly, I suspect he died from a congenital heart defect.<\/p>\n
I hate that every so often a young person dies
\nand seems to miss out on so many things
\nhe or she could have experienced in this life.<\/p>\n
My way of finding some acceptance of it
\nis to imagine they get to a better place sooner.<\/p>\n
Of course, I might be fooling myself, but
\nnonetheless it gives me some comfort in what
\notherwise seems so terribly unfair to me.<\/p>\n
Many accounts of NDEs suggest I might be right,
\nbut none of those people were permanently dead,
\nand scientists present good arguments that what
\nthe NDEers experience could be just illusions as the
\nbrain shuts down and oxygen depletes.<\/p>\n
But I\u2019m sticking to the optimistic theory that a
\nbetter life exists beyond this one, and that those
\nwho get their sooner despite how they died
\nare the luckier ones.<\/p>\n
