{"id":2890,"date":"2025-11-10T18:41:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T18:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bobboydpoems.com\/watching-a-movie-deranged-1974\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T18:41:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T18:41:12","slug":"watching-a-movie-deranged-1974","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bobwriting.com\/poems\/watching-a-movie-deranged-1974\/","title":{"rendered":"Watching a Movie, Deranged 1974"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know what you\u2019re thinking<br>\nI had to be slightly deranged<br>\nto watch a movie like that<\/p>\n<p>but hold on, take heart<br>\nit has a 6.4 rating on the IMDB<br>\nwhich is decent, as you might know<br>\nand it\u2019s not about blood and guts<br>\nor slicing and dicing<br>\nit\u2019s a psychological thriller<br>\nabout a guy whose eyes<br>\nhave the right amount of crazy<br>\nto  properly represent derangement<\/p>\n<p>he\u2019s a mama\u2019s boy who goes crazy<br>\nwhen his mother dies<\/p>\n<p>and when he\u2019s about to be<br>\nmaking the beast with two backs<br>\nwith a more than willing woman <\/p>\n<p>his dead mother springs to life<br>\ncomes back from the dead<br>\nin his deranged head<br>\ntells him the tramp is sinful<br>\nand he must kill her<br>\nwhich mama\u2019s boy that he is<br>\nhe dutifully does<\/p>\n<p>fortunately, the movie spares you<br>\nthe gore, but you know what<br>\nhe\u2019s done for mama <\/p>\n<p>he has a stash of their corpses<br>\nin his house sitting at his kitchen table  <\/p>\n<p>I see an actress in the movie<br>\nnamed Miki Moore<br>\nwho plays a waitress named Mary<br>\nshe\u2019s looking good back in 74<br>\nI find myself a bit taken with her<br>\ndespite the fact the her of her in 74<br>\nis no longer the her of her today<br>\nif she\u2019s even still living<\/p>\n<p>in one scene her car has flat tires<br>\nflattened by the deranged son of<br>\nthe dead mother to entrap her<br>\nwhen she finishes work<\/p>\n<p>he talks her into accompanying him<br>\nto his house where he says he has<br>\nspare tires and will put them on<br>\nher car for free<\/p>\n<p>she waits for him in his car outside<br>\nhis house while he pretends he\u2019s<br>\ngoing inside to get the tires<\/p>\n<p>but he doesn\u2019t come out<br>\neven when she beeps the horn on his car<\/p>\n<p>exasperated, she gets out of his car<br>\nand starts toward his house of horrors<\/p>\n<p>although I\u2019m fully cognizant that it\u2019s<br>\njust a movie<\/p>\n<p>inside my head I\u2019m saying no \u2026 no \u2026<br>\ndon\u2019t go in \u2026 don\u2019t go in \u2026.<\/p>\n<p>as if I could telepathically save her from<br>\nher predestined, godawful fate<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m that caught up in it, and I don\u2019t want<br>\nto see Mary suffer such an<br>\nawful end to her life<\/p>\n<p>but, alas, neither I nor God<br>\nand all his angels and saints<br>\ncan save her at that point<br>\nMary doesn\u2019t have a prayer<\/p>\n<p>even with Revered Green in the<br>\nWalking in Memphis song<br>\nwho usually can help<br>\n\u201cwhen you haven\u2019t got a prayer\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Mary is a doomed woman<br>\nand my imagined telepathic thoughts<br>\ncannot save her<\/p>\n<p>from the ravages that await her in that hell house<br>\nso I try to remotely view and rewrite the script<\/p>\n<p>to save my beloved Mary<br>\nbut even that imaginary power doesn\u2019t work<\/p>\n<p>and she succumbs to the derangement of the<br>\nderanged principle in Deranged 1974<\/p>\n<p>and Mary is just another corpse<br>\nthank God it\u2019s all just a movie.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Boyd  <\/p>\n<p>P.S. I showed this poem to a friend,<br>\nand she thought I was that caught up<br>\nin the movie.
