Priceless Love

On the dating app, the older single women
listed their financial requirements
averaging 100k a year, sometimes more.

It was as if they were selling themselves
for high price tags rather than seriously
looking for true love.

It was as if they were overpriced sales goods
priced far too high for serious considerations.

I was kinda glad I didn’t make the 100k a year
and felt it wouldn’t have been worth it anyway.
And honestly, I don’t think any of those women
were worth 100k a year, but I do feel some
women are worth more than money can buy.
And if you’re extremely lucky or richly blessed,
you might find one of those priceless women
and win their immeasurable, lasting love.

Dinner with the Hare Krishnas

Back in the seventies I was living in Cambridge Mass
when I and two friends saw a sign that read
free dinner with the Hare Krishnas.

Interested in exploring spiritual groups and beliefs,
myself and my friends attended the dinner.

The Krishnas were nice, likable people,
but one thing surprised me.

Like fundamentalist Christians,
they believed Krishna was the only way,
but instead of going to heaven
you went to Krishnaloka.

I was surprised by their dogma
since Hinduism is usually accepting
of other religions and spiritual paths.

Then the unexpected happened.
One of my friends had disappeared
for about ten minutes.

He returned with one of the Krishnas
with the two white lines on his forehead
just like the Krishnas had.

At first, I thought they’d got him.
It was like something out of the
invasion of the body snatcher’s movie.

But then my friend flashed a comical smile,
and I knew he was just going with the
experience for the fun of it
and that he hadn’t been recruited.

Although I was surprised by the Hare Krishna’s
belief that Krishna was the only or best way
to go to a heaven or become one with God,
I have to say their esteemed founder
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
seemed like a real deal saintly Spiritual Master.

A Dream of Stealing a Fish

Often I have these dreams
where I’ve done crazy things.
Last night I dreamed
I stole a fish form a coworker
right out of her office
in a fish bowl I brought to work.
And I hid the fishbowl in a closet
to sneak it out of the building
at an opportune moment
when she wouldn’t see
me swiping her fish.

When I work up alarmed,
that I I’d stolen a coworker’s fish,
a mini second later,
I realized I didn’t steal her fish
and that I hadn’t worked
in a year and never
worked in the office
or knew the woman
in my petty theft dream.

Dreams of Everlasting Love

I suspect for most people
dreams of everlasting love
dawn in them in their teens
as they did in me.

Despite those romantic dreams
I, like others, never realized
those dreams of everlasting love
in this unpredictable, changing world.

This makes me wonder if
everlasting love is illusionary
that even if you have it for
a lifetime it doesn’t last
forever when you die.

It makes me wonder if
in the afterlife romantic love
is neverafter.

Perhaps replaced with
an unconditional love
for everyone.

Or maybe if dead is dead
and your you is obliterated
the dreams of everlasting
romantic love are dead forever
returning never.

Personally, I’d prefer if
romantic love was
everlasting in the afterlife
for even those who never
found it in this temporary life.

The Lies of the Main Street Media

Who would have thought
the once highly respected
daily TV MSM news
would have become full of lies.
What happened to journalist integrity?
Why is there no journalistic oversight
to protect the public from all the lies?
Where is the objectivity instead of
the neverending left wing bias?
Day after day force feeding
their unhealthy junk food news
to many unsuspecting gullible
people addicted to their TVs
and believing the blatant lies,
eating up and blindly ingesting all
they see on the fake news on TV.
A sweet deal for the Left
an injustice for the Right
and a blight upon the once
highly respected TV MSM News.

Impending Death Approaching

To my surprise
the days don’t
pass slower
now that I’m
retired and
not working
anymore.

I thought the
days would
slow down
when I wasn’t
as busy as
when I worked.

But the days
pass by
just as fast,
and I suspect
they’ll pass
faster and
faster and
hasten me
sooner to
my expiration
death date,
which I think
will happen
in less than
six short years
despite feeling
healthy and
well now.

Good Days

Good days,
cherish them
while they last.

Eventually
they go bad.
Sometimes
worse than
you ever
imagined
how bad a
day could be.

A car crash.
A cancer.
Death of
a loved one –
a son, daughter
brother, sister
a husband or
a wife.

Eventually
the good days
come back,
but those days
never last
forever.
Eventually
they’re all
gone when
you die.

But maybe,
just maybe,
you get
good days
forever in
the afterlife.

The Few

I read a poem about a woman
walking in beauty.

I saw a woman
born in beauty.

Actually I’ve seen many women
walking and born in beauty.

Actually I wish all women
could walk and be born in beauty

Actually I wish everyone could
be beautiful in all ways
from birth to death.

To me, that would be fairer
than the current status quo
of the few that walk in beauty
and are born that way.

My Expiration

My world is spinning faster and faster.
My days and nights are getting shorter.
I’m getting older and older far too fast.
I’ve finally really seen my life won’t last
after years and years of repeated denials
and feeling like I’d live forever and ever.
But now I’ve acclimated to my expiration,
and I just don’t care about it anymore.

The Medicals

Hail to people who deal in blood and guts,
that mend and heal us and save our lives,
doctors, nurses, doctors assistants, and such.
It takes amazing people with strong stomachs
to serve humanity with this kind of work,
like angels on earth with a greater mission
than most people have in their occupations.
Hail to people who deal in blood and guts.
I don’t know how they do it, I could not.
These are special people par excellence.
God bless them all for what they do.

On the Advantages of a Robot Woman for a Wife

Programmed to be your perfect mate, everything in common
with you.

Possessing the sweetest, most melodious voice
you ever heard.

Unwavering love and affection for you.

Always up for lovemaking and more than good at it.

Spontaneous, serendipitous, fun and playful.

Synthetic skin that feels as real as human skin
but does not age.

Programmed to be an equal partner, not a mindless slave.

An intellect that will match or exceed yours,
depending on your preference.

Her mind a source of unlimited knowledge.

Always supportive and caring.

Faithful and trustworthy, will not steal from you, cheat on you,
or leave you for another man.

Compassionate, kind, and possessing an evenness of mind,
never any drama or unhinged behavior.

Never argumentative but will gently keep you on course
should you stray into the possibility of a bad or harmful action.

Defensively empowered to protect you or your home from any harm.

Will never get sick or die.

The Aging of a Housefly

A housefly lives 15 to 30 days.
I wonder if to that fly
those 15 to 30 days
seem like 65 to 95 days
in a human’s life.
But doubtlessly it
fares better in its old age
than humans do.
I’ve never seen a housefly
in a wheelchair, using a cane
or on a walker.
And I’m reasonably sure
it doesn’t have senior moments
or end up in a nursing home.

Spinning World

It amazes me how the world keeps spinning
and never misses a beat,

how flawlessly it works without anyone knowing
it’s spinning day and night,

as if it had automatically greased gears
that it spins upon anonymously.

It amazes me more that people and life
go on oblivious to the spinning,

as if the world was never spinning and
always stationary in the same place.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen
if the world got tired and stopped spinning

and if that would ever be a real
and disastrous possibility.

Death of a Marriage

He hated her.
He wondered
why he
married her.

He wondered
how he had
ever loved her.

And how he
missed all
the glaring
red flags
when they
were dating.

And how he
lost his mind
and foolishly
fell in love
with her.

Now that
she’s cheated
on him, he
smiles and
loads his gun
to end her
and him.

Bob Boyd

The Attention Seekers

Everything they did
to look charitable
required cameras
and tip offs
to the media
to film them
doing their bogus
good deeds.

They had to make sure
the news saw them
as they were not.

It was all for show
and had nothing
to do with charity.

It was all to advance
their failed businesses
and vain self promotions.

They fooled some
people but most
people despised
their nonsense.

Most people just
wanted them to
go away.
