Crazy Dreams

Crazy dreams, what do they mean?
Often don’t make any sense
as if on recreational drug trips
and Wizard of Oz meanderings.
I wake up and forget most of them.
A few of them sometimes stick.
Some people think we astral
travel when we have these dreams.
I don’t believe I’m leaving my body.
I just think I’m having crazy dreams.

When His Heart Gave Out

He couldn’t believe
how much she had changed
from loving and sweet
to heartless and mean
in the course of a few
years of marriage.

He found himself drowning
in the toxicity of it all
and fearing to just leave
and be utterly alone
and risk never finding
another love.

He concluded a bad love
was better than no love.
A year later when his
broken heart gave out,
embittered he died.

Bob Boyd

The Greater Scheme of Things

The NDEers said it was all about
love in the afterlife.

He wondered why there seemed
to be insufficient love in this life.

He couldn’t put the pieces together
in the puzzle of

all the hate, violence, and horrors
pervasive on the planet.

Though moments of love and compassion
often seeped through,

but evil, murders, and wars persisted
without the higher love intervening

and saving us all from the miseries
and the heartaches so many endure.

He could only resolve his puzzlement
by believing and trusting in

that somehow in some way in the greater
scheme of things all was good.

The Nothingness Void

Seas rushed into lands.
The land recoiled.
People screamed and ran.
There was no escape.
The world became
flooded again,
There was no noah.
The waves rolled and
crashed violently all over the
planet and the seas
destroying all cities
killing all the people
crushing ships and boats and
killing all the humans in them.
The winds screamed in the skies
thrashing every flying thing to death.
The sun stopped shining.
The earth stopped spinning.
And everything in the cosmos
exploded into a flaming conflagration
and burned out into a nothingness void.

Bob Boyd

Danced Like a Swan

The poet wrote a man danced like a swan.
I never saw a swan dance and
I don’t believe they do.

At least not in a way comparable to humans
or with any kind of choreographic grace.

But my different opinion aside,
which admittedly could be wrong,
I like the way a man dancing like
a swan sounds.

And I like the inherent beauty
and grace in a swan’s regal nature.

Opportunistic Politicians

Some politicians are so full of crap
and so corrupt that they don’t
give a damn about the people,
those who don’t vote for them
and those who do.

They’re in no way patriotic.
They’re just opportunists
looking for a way to make a buck
at the taxpayers expense.

They try to make patriotic politicians
look like the villains they themselves are,
as if their vilification is a projection
of their own opportunistic devilry.

They lead the media by the nose
with their self serving propaganda
designed to disparage the other party
and make themselves look pristine.

It’s all a political grift to enrich them
and try to keep the people ignorant
of their dark deeds and deceptions.

But finally they are exposed
for what they really are,
for how they don’t care about us.

Bob Boyd

Loved Him for Him

He so tired of women
only after his money,
that he lost all respect
for women in general.

He mistakenly stereotyped
even women who
were not gold diggers,

but he was too disappointed
in the avaricious ones
whose love was commercial
to see through his untrue bias.

But after some reflection
he saw how he let his
bad experiences with
fake women and false loves
skewer his opinion
about all women and
that some had to be good.

So he came up with a plan
to find a woman who
would love him for him.

Like he’d seen in a old movie
he pretended to be poor
with inexpensive clothes
and an old beat up car.

Eventually after many rejections,
he met a sweet, saintly woman
who loved him more and truer
than all his discarded gold diggers.

Bob Boyd

Too Gritty Poetry

His poetry was sometimes too gritty.
Some women said he was a sexist,
called women whores and used them,
but he made up for it in moments of
compassion and caring for women
and a cat with a broken back.

Perhaps he was like most of us
with positives and negatives in
our personal makeup, in our
hidden imperfect selves,
except he was more forthright
and reckless by acting on them.

Bob Boyd

The Shill

He’d been a shill for a biased news station
for many years.

He didn’t agree with the fake news he
spewed daily on TV,
but the pay was too good to
follow his conscience.

Then he woke up one morning
and felt like he’d sold
his soul to the devil.

His conscience erupted.
He realized he’d been
as fake as the news
he reported
for over 20 years.

He got dressed,
went to work, took
the elevator to the top
of the skyscraper
that his news station
was located in.

And like a bomb dropped
from a plane,
he jumped off
the building and
all that was left of him
were his splattered remains
on the cold city street below.

The Miraculous Feat of a Stink Bug

The Miraculous Feat of a Stink Bug

I don’t think a stink bug has ever walked on water,
but he’s come damn near close by walking up walls.
He walks up a wall with ease, as if he has adhesive feet.
Astonished, I marvel at his miraculous performance.
I wonder if he could also change water into wine,
though to be honest, I’d prefer the watery miracle
to be water changed into dark roasted instant coffee.
I wonder if that stink bug that really doesn’t stink
could raise me from the dead when I expire.
I guess I’ll just have to just wait and see.

She Was Otherwise Nice

She always had to be
in the center of the spotlight.

Her instagram page was
full of photos of herself,
her Facebook page too.

Some unkindly referred
to women like her as
attention whores.

She was otherwise nice,
but I never understood
her obsessive need
to always display herself
all over social media..

And I wonder what will
happen to her when
time erases her beauty
and attention to her
ubiquitous photos will wane.

Bob Boyd

her service to humanity

she loved the high and monied life
she caught the biggest rich fish
and lived high on their wealth
like a bloodsucking parasite

in moments of sober reflection
she felt the emptiness in her life
but eased it by going shopping
and spending thousands on
designer dresses and purses

and seeing her purpose as
a service with her extravagant
shopping helping many people
staying profitably employed

Over and Over and Over

I wondered how sleazeballs could become politicians
yet I saw them doing performance art in congress
over and over and over and over and over and over
voted in and voted in and voted in and voted in
I couldn’t understand how anyone could support them
how anyone could be so politically stuped and
unable to see through the obvious dumb deceptions
then I saw how the mainstream media was complicit
in providing cover and false narratives about them
and how many low information voters got duped
over and over and over and over and over and over

Bob Boyd

skiing drunk

he’d skied all his life
some said like a pro
he liked the feel of
skis under his feet
the wind in his face
the crunching sound
of the crusty snow
the freedom of it all
the getaway time
from the hassles of
his hard driven life
drunk on the slopes
he skied erratically
lost control of skis
into a deadly tree
his skiing days
his forty years of
life gone forever

Bob Boyd

Lottery Winning Boss

He won the lottery.
Never had a dime
then suddenly
got rich with millions.

Had so much money
he didn’t know what
to do with it all.

Blew it on gold digging
women, expensive
clothes, fancy cars,
exorbitant homes.

Went bankrupt a few
years later from in
his words, “Spending
my money like a Boss!”

I Wonder Where Ruth Is Now

I wonder where Ruth is now,
a sweet woman I once loved
and was married to for 7 years

until my introvert nature and
her extrovert nature became
at odds with our love.

She began spending more
time with friends than with
homebody me.

Decades after we divorced,
Ruth died in her early 50s,
of what I don’t know.

I read of her death in an
obituary online and felt
so sorry for her.

Despite our marriage and
our love not working out,
I would have liked her to
have a long and happy life.

And I wonder where Ruth
is now.

Reincarnating Flowers

The flowers keep coming back
every Spring.

Is this a form of reincarnation?
Do flowers keep incarnating
life after life?

If so, is it the same for you
and me? Some people claim
they’ve lived past lives.

Some seem like they could
be creditable, but hard
to say if they are.

Most have no idea if they’ve
been here before or where
they were, if anywhere,
before they were born.

As for me, I’m hoping
reincarnation isn’t real.
Imagine coming back on
the cusp of a
full blown nuclear holocaust.

Bob Boyd

I read flies can mate more quickly and more effectively than most insects.

If you’re a fly reading this, that’s nothing to brag about.
Have you not heard of wooing a lady?
Have you not heard of foreplay?
Whatever happened to flowers and chocolates
and the requisite I love yous?
What about her needs instead of just yours?
Quick on the draw is okay for gun fights or duals
but not for the gentle art of lovemaking.
And based on your speed screwing,
you probably hop off and leave her there
and fly away once you got yours
without some afterglow caresses and kisses.
So man up and consider her pleasure too.
Slow down and please her better;
It’s the gentlemanly thing to do.

Bob Boyd

Her Complications

I decided I didn’t want her complications,
Despite that we had so much in common.
Despite that she was so damn good in bed.
But what the hell is a lot in common
and good in bed lovemaking skills
when she made me miserably unhappy?
Better being without her complications
that caused me so much damn drama.
Better living a peaceful uncomplicated life.

Bob Boyd

He Loved the Women of the Night

He loved the women of the night.
He felt the transactions were fair.
He got what he wanted.
They got well compensated.
He said he didn’t want the drama
and the potential disappointments,
and the always possible heartaches
in normal relationships with women.
In a way, he might have had a point.
But if he had taken the risk and
invested in a normal relationship,
he might have found a loving wife
instead of unromantic couplings
minus caring and enduring love.

Bob Boyd

Forget about True Love, He Told Me

He told me you have to choose a woman
like you’d choose a profitable stock.
Forget about true love
that won’t help with the bottom line
of living large and flush with cash.
Inwardly I scoffed at his avarice
and chose a sweet woman and true love.
He chose a women with an inheritance
As if there were no justice in this world,
his marriage lasted all his greedy life.
Mine fizzled out in less than a year.

Sandra Lisacki Woburn High School Class of 1964

Remembering Sandra Lisacki today
and how beautiful she looked
back in high school gracing the corridors
with her stunning and exotic looks,
holding her books in her arms,
looking so amazingly lovely.
Her beautiful brown eyes
and black hair left me practically breathless.

Alas, I wish I could have met her in person
and been lucky enough to have gone out with her.
I wish I could have been that blessed.
Instead I never approached her,
never got to know her.

Perhaps feeling unworthy of her.
And asking her out might have been
as futile as an undeserving mortal
asking out a heavenly goddess.

And back then to me she was
like a goddess, and I will never forget
how incomparably beautiful she looked
in the Woburn High Class of 1964.
I hope she is still alive. She’d be 78
now I think. I hope she had a happy life.
