If I Believed in a Satan

If I believed in a Satan,
it would make it easier
for me to understand
why there is so much
evil and horror upon
this planet.

Then I could reconcile
why children are raped
and murdered and
sold or kidnapped into
child prostitution

why psychopaths and
serial killers seem to
inhabit the planet with
increasing numbers

why serial killers seem
to kill numberless
victims with impunity.

But since I don’t believe
in a horn-headed Satan,
I cannot fathom why a
supposedly loving God
allows all this evil and
horror to happen.
