he couldn’t believe his luck when she deigned to
go out with him
he felt his stars must have been perfectly aligned
to have such an incredibly beautiful woman
come into his life
he felt even more blessed a year later when she
accepted his proposal
for about six months he felt like he was in nuptial bliss
beyond what any other mortal ever experienced
but after that boredom set in and arguments increased
and he got so used to her looks that
she was no longer beautiful to him
he felt he no longer had anything in common with her
he wished he’d never gotten involved with her
he dreamed of leaving their dead and toxic marriage
unknown to him she wanted out of the marriage too
and left him before he could leave her
distraught and broken hearted and barely able to go on
now he wants her back and cries over her every night
as the old saying has it
sometimes you don’t know what you have until you lose it
