The Music Was Dying with Him

In his youth he lived for music
radios on all the time
music blaring out of them
in his home in his car
songs the background of his life
like the music in a movie

when he became an old man
the music lost its importance
he rarely listened to it
except once in a while
the music like his life
began fading away
and the reason for that
puzzles him to this day

This Rotating World

I’m sitting on this rotating world
oblivious to its constant spinning
wondering why I never thought
about the imperceptible rotation
and what made it a grand idea
in some great creator’s head
or did it one day just decided
spinning would be more fun
than just sitting still in space
and I wonder about all the
undiscovered cosmic mysteries
in the vastness of the universe.

Attention Whore

She lived for the limelight
a cheerleader in high school
she loved all the attention
she wanted more of it
when she graduated from
her small town high school
as an actress in hollywood
and through hard work and
persistence she achieved
her hollywood dreams
and got attention from all
over the us and the world
as an international star
some people called her
a chronic attention whore
but screw them because
she managed to live her
dream, a dream many
give up on and lack the
grit to not give up on it
kudos to her I say.

A Kind Lie

Some lies are kind lies,
he proved.

A woman who looked hideous
to him

asked him if he found her
attractive.

He replied he did
instead of unkindly
and truthfully telling
her he didn’t.

He spared her feelings
at the cost of his integrity
but he knew her feelings
were more important
than hurtful truth.

Besides, he felt, she
was beautiful within,
and he asked her
to become his wife
because of that.

She accepted even though
she didn’t find him
attractive either.

But he like her
was beautiful within.

Evil Knows No Limits

Evil knows no limits
it seems.

Murders and rapes
daily

No end to serial killers
sadistically murdering people
mostly women

Children sexually abused,
some sex trafficked

Sometimes wives
murdered by husbands

Sometimes husbands
murdered by wives

Sometimes children
murdered by parents

Why must there always
be such evil

Why can’t the darkness
be prevented by the Light

She Walked in Beauty and Ugliness

He read about a woman who walked in beauty.
He imagined an earthbound goddess
with a perfect body, blonde hair,
ineffable beauty and a winsome personality.

He thought he met the goddess in
a big, upscale department store
that he worked in and she managed
until her employees told him that
she was a witch who was meanspirited
and walked in ugliness all over them.

In the Face of Death He Eats What He Wants

He no longer cares about
what he’s told he should eat.
Screw the vegetables.
Screw the fats and calories,
the cholesterol and sugar.
But be sensible about salt.
Don’t want high blood
and debilitating strokes.
Just wants to die with
his mental faculties
reasonably intact.

Bob Boyd

Bad End of Life

Days and nights keep passing fast
Seasons come and go at warp speed
it’s hard to keep up with the changes.

Sometimes he thinks to himself
I’m just hanging around here
waiting to finally die with dignity.

He believes the afterlife will offer
him a better deal than inhabiting
an old body that is breaking down.

He worries he could live longer
than he wants to and be
sentenced to die in the indignity
of a nursing home institution
indifferent to his dementia-ridden self.

An Imaginary Playmate

He had an imaginary playmate
starting in his fifth year of life.
He said she was a little fairy.
His parents knew she wasn’t real,
just an imaginary friend
and weren’t concerned about it.
He still played with her when older
but realized it seemed crazy to
keep talking to an imaginary friend
and kept his friendship secret.
In his sixtieth year of life
he died and learned his friend
was a wife from a former life.

Seen and Unseen

Awful people, the world has too many of them.
Nice people, we need more of them.
Sometimes it seems there’s an imbalance
between the awful and the nice,
and I wonder how that plays out in
the world’s collective unconsciousness,
in the peace and disharmony
bubbling daily beneath the surface
of the known and unknown happenings
seen and unseen all over the planet.

Bob Boyd

Senseless Carnage

Millions upon millions have died in wars.
blood spilled all over the entire planet,
endless sorrows for millions of families.
Have we a chance for better tomorrows,
or will senseless carnage continue?

The Recluses and The Social Butterflies

Too many people end up alone
and friendless
when they become old.

Once outward people mixing
with people
become reclusive
and alone.

Perhaps it’s biological,
shutting some old
people down
in readiness for
approaching death.

Other old people
still mingle
why the difference
I’m not sure.

Perhaps when social
butterflies get old
they are programmed
to still flutter around
in the dimming light
of their fading years.

Conquering the Cold

Just as I was enjoying the winter’s cold,
it’s gone too soon.

I’d prepared for it too well for it to be
over so quickly,

layers of clothing, windows winterised,
bottoms of doors fortified from drafts,

a Japanese hot water bottle
that held intense heat for hours

made my bed as warm as an electric
blanket without the cost.

Just when I’d conquered the cold, it gave
up too easily.

Already I’m pining for next year’s winter
challenges.

Beware of the Globalists

Globalists have no business in your country.
They are only going to screw your country up.
Avoid them like you’d avoid a COVID pandemic.
They’d probably be worse them COVID for your life
and the freedom and well being of your country.
Imagine if they flooded your country with migrants
illegally, that hated you and your beloved country
and wanted to destroy and remake it just like
the countries they chose to leave for yours.

The Beauty in His So-Called Ugly Wife

They said his wife was ugly
Fools, they didn’t see her beauty
and expected him to have a
shallow, superficial trophy wife
because he was a famous actor.
But she was with him for him
and not for his fame and money.
And was more beautiful than
all of the cookie-cut beauties
who valued gold more than love
and were superficial and bland
compared to her sense of humor,
her intellect and her genuine love.

Bob Boyd

Eternal Damnation Knell

The days grow much warmer.
His body keeps growing colder.
Death is nagging him to die.
He keeps resisting the knell
for fear of eternal damnation
He takes more and more pills
to try to prolong the inevitable.
But the red-tailed evil one has
his eye on him and he knows
he’ll soon get his rightful due.

Bob Boyd

Crazy Dreams

Crazy dreams, what do they mean?
Often don’t make any sense
as if on recreational drug trips
and Wizard of Oz meanderings.
I wake up and forget most of them.
A few of them sometimes stick.
Some people think we astral
travel when we have these dreams.
I don’t believe I’m leaving my body.
I just think I’m having crazy dreams.

Bob Boyd

When His Heart Gave Out

He couldn’t believe
how much she had changed
from loving and sweet
to heartless and mean
in the course of a few
years of marriage.

He found himself drowning
in the toxicity of it all
and fearing to just leave
and be utterly alone
and risk never finding
another love.

He concluded a bad love
was better than no love.
A year later when his
broken heart gave out,
embittered he died.

Bob Boyd

The Greater Scheme of Things

The NDEers said it was all about
love in the afterlife.

He wondered why there seemed
to be insufficient love in this life.

He couldn’t put the pieces together
in the puzzle of

all the hate, violence, and horrors
pervasive on the planet.

Though moments of love and compassion
often seeped through,

but evil, murders, and wars persisted
without the higher love intervening

and saving us all from the miseries
and the heartaches so many endure.

He could only resolve his puzzlement
by believing and trusting in

that somehow in some way in the greater
scheme of things all was good.

Bob Boyd

The Nothingness Void

Seas rushed into lands.
The land recoiled.
People screamed and ran.
There was no escape.
The world became
flooded again,
There was no noah.
The waves rolled and
crashed violently all over the
planet and the seas
destroying all cities
killing all the people
crushing ships and boats and
killing all the humans in them.
The winds screamed in the skies
thrashing every flying thing to death.
The sun stopped shining.
The earth stopped spinning.
And everything in the cosmos
exploded into a flaming conflagration
and burned out into a nothingness void.
