Geillis Duncan Unjustly Executed as a Witch in 1591

Maid servant
in 1589
in Scotland
under the
rule of
King James VI

Compassionate good
woman helped
others who
were sick
or troubled

Falsely accused
of witchcraft
Arrested in
1589

Tortured by
her employer
deputy bailiff
David Seton

Crushed her
fingers with
thumbscrews

Twisted and
tightened ropes
around her
head

Stripped her
clothes off

Shaved the
hair from
her body

Subjected her
to indecent
searches while
naked

Claimed he
found the
Devil’s mark
on Geillis’s
throat

Imprisoned and
isolated her

Deprived her
of sleep

After Relentless
torture and
sleep deprivation

she could
no longer
endure

she confessed
to being
a witch
to stop
the torture
and pain

and was
forced to
accuse others
as being
witches

knowing she
would be
put to
death

her only
release from
the tortures
and torments

Unjustly Executed
December 11, 1591

A good
and innocent
woman put
to death

Another infamy
during the
reign of
King James VI,
the ruler
who believed
evil witches
were real
and after
him

Hundreds
of innocent
women tortured
and put
to death
in his
times

I hope
they are
in a
heaven now
compensated and
exonerated in
the afterlife

Always researching for many of my poems and because of my unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
