her, a hippy
me, a wanna be
took her home
to meet my folks
in Tennessee
kicked us both
out of their home
drove with her
back to Cali
argued along
the way
crazily
she left me
back in Cali
tired of being
with a wannabe
took off with
a real deal
hippy dude
I went back
to working
for the Man
completely
sold out
became a
straight arrow

Pisses me off how movies screw up history,
rewrites to sell the movies.
Bullshit myths that people believe because
they saw them in movies.
I’m been guilty of believing the movies too
until I heard or learned the real history.
Pisses me off that I was duped, but like most
I just accepted the movies as true.
Maybe you did too.

Lisa had tried the dating apps,
never met the right guy.
After texting many guys and
meeting some,
she never had any success.
She had a few boyfriends,
didn’t work out.
For some reason, at age 31
she couldn’t suffer not having
become married.
I guess she went little crazy,
or maybe she got too depressed,
when she hung herself to death
in her bedroom closet.

She always camped by herself,
liked the independence.
She didn’t fear any trouble,
trouble only happened to others.
Unwisely, she announced
locations where she went camping
in YouTube videos weekly.
A predator who watched her videos
snuck into her tent one night.
But luck was with her.
A pitbull her brother bought her
scared the predator away.

I knew a wild woman named Viv
who always said she was sticking it to the man.
She liked breaking parking meters with sledge hammers.
She busted machines that you had to pay money
to get stuff out of.
She never paid income taxes, always got jobs that
paid under the table.
She rarely paid any attention to speed limits,
said her personal best was a buck and a quarter.
She stuck it too much to the man when she
robbed a bank and got caught.
Now the man is sticking it to her in a court where
she just got sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.

is always there for you

Melvin, age 50, told a female friend of his,
Gloria, age 60, she looked good for her age.
Instead of appreciating the complement
Gloria became pissed and raged.
She called Melvin a son of a bitch.
Melvin tried to convince Gloria that
he only meant to compliment her.
Gloria became psycho crazy, pulled a
pistol out of her purse, and shot Melvin.
Melvin bled out on the floor and
a wild-eyed Gloria ran for the door.
That was back in 2004, and the cops
still haven’t found a trace of Gloria,
even though she’s living on her
Social Security somewhere in Mexico.

I have thought about trying to live without
a car many times.
But the inconvenience always outweighs
the convenience of having a car.
Now that I am older and see doctors
a car guarantees I’ll make appoments.
A tax cab might or might not provide that
same guarantee based on my experience.
And I shudder at the cost of having a taxi
wait for me while I grocery shop.
And I worry about being like a shut in
if I had my groceries delivered.
So I’m still not car free like the many
I admire because they can pull it off.

His Days Grow Shorter.
Time passes faster.
Death is coming for him soon
because of his advanced age.
But he’s lived long enough
to not really be concerned.
And he sees in dying
the entry into a greater life
than the life of the living.

When an elderly woman was diagnosed
with Alzheimer’s, the shock of it nearly
gave her a heart attack.
She had expected she had something wrong
with her mind.
But she hoped doctors would find a cure for it.
When she found out it was Alzheimer’s, and
no cure existed for it,
she decided to end her life by walking into
the deep water of a pond and drowning to death.
I can understand that and were I her, I’d feel
the same way, though I can’t say I’d end my life.
