Too many people end up alone
and friendless
when they become old.
Once outward people mixing
with people
become reclusive
and alone.
Perhaps it’s biological,
shutting some old
people down
in readiness for
approaching death.
Other old people
still mingle
why the difference
I’m not sure.
Perhaps when social
butterflies get old
they are programmed
to still flutter around
in the dimming light
of their fading years.
