The warm weather was
stubborn this year

it was reluctant to
surrender

to the
cold fall weather

it clung to the
70s

rarely dipping to
tops of the 60s

it seemed instead
of a chilly fall

we were going
to have

a prolonged
mild summer

but alas one
night the cold

arrived suddenly
unexpectedly

and the plunge
in the temperature

gave my body the
cold shakes

a sweat shirt
and a blanket.
