The war drums are beating.
The soldiers are marching
the cadence of their boots
sounding on the ground.
The rulers are making speeches
to motivate the soldiers to fight,
the soldiers to die,
the wives and mothers to cry.

As he grew old
his life became
like a rushing river
days sped by faster
months and years
flew by seemingly
in the blink of an eye
and just like rivers
racing to oceans
his days were
racing toward
the ocean of
eternal bliss
consciousness.

Beautiful Bridgette
had six ex-husbands
wasn’t her fault
she was just unlucky
in her gambles with love
three were rogues
that cheated on her
the rest were free loaders
more interested in her money
than her love
beautiful Bridgette
love forsaken
more so when she got
old and her beauty
abandoned her
with never another
chance for lasting love.

Thousands died
a revolution to
break the chains
of totalitarian
oppression
the battle done
thousand more
dead on each
side, the
hardwon cost
of freedom.
