and I won’t fight to stay alive.
Why cling to the impermanence
when you’ve gotten old as a relic,
when your body is breaking down,
when you’re getting weaker and weaker
and more prone to medical conditions,
when your days are running out,
when living longer, your life
will only get worse?
Why resist what may be
a better afterlife,
a young spirit body,
free from growing old,
free from sickness,
free from suffering.
free from the
woes of this world?
And if only the grave
and nothing more,
the same freedoms
are yours.
And when I die
I won’t cry
I’ll welcome the
transition, the
relocation to what
I believe will be a
far better world.
But were I young again,
and the world was
fresh and new, and
I could build a future,
I’d cry if I was going to die,
and I’d fight to stay alive.
Oblivious to the impermanence,
I’d want a long taste of life;
I’d want to savor it fully,
like a lavish feast,
before I died.
